We Actually Calibrate Your Vehicle

The unfortunate fact is that some glass companies will tell you they calibrated your safety sensors but then they’ll skip it. This is both dangerous and irresponsible – they do it because it’s easy, not safe.

What is ADAS Calibration?

ADAS calibration is the process of adjusting and fine-tuning sensors and cameras to ensure they are correctly aligned with the vehicle’s specifications. This alignment allows features like lane-keeping assist and collision detection work as intended, maintaining your safety on the road.

The process requires specialized equipment and expertise, and it may involve both in-shop static calibration and on-road dynamic calibration, depending on the vehicle and ADAS configuration.

More on calibration needs from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

How Much Does ADAS Calibration Cost?

The cost of ADAS calibration varies based on factors like the vehicle model, system complexity, and whether static or dynamic calibration is required. At Windshield Surgeons Auto Glass, we strive to have the most affordable calibration pricing in the industry. Most commonly it is performed as part of a Windshield Replacement.

Some insurance policies cover calibration costs. Usually you would know if this was the case for you because it would come at an extra cost. If you’re unsure, feel free to check with your provider. We will help make any insurance claim as hassle free as possible!

Calibrations Types: Static, Dynamic, or Both

ADAS calibration can be performed in three main ways:

Static Calibration

What is Static Calibration?

Static Calibration is conducted in a controlled environment using specialized equipment to align cameras and sensors with manufacturer specifications. It requires precisely aligning one, or a series of, targets to an exact position relative to the vehicle. Then calibration of the cameras and software is performed based on those positioned targets.
This aligns the ADAS systems in the vehicle ensuring they correctly understand the positioning of objects in the real world.

Dynamic Calibration

What is Dynamic Calibration?

Dynamic Calibration is conducted by driving the vehicle while it is placed in calibration mode. The vehicle must be driven according to set specifications and must encounter a checklist of real-world conditions and objects while on that drive or the calibration will not pass. Once all conditions are met, the calibration is passed and the vehicle’s system adjusts using the real-world data captured on the road.

Combination Calibration

What is Static & Dynamic Calibration?

Some vehicles require both static and dynamic calibrations for full system accuracy. These vehicles first require a Static calibration to be performed, then the Dynamic calibration must follow. This allows the vehicle to have the benefits of both types of calibration, as well as the ability to do a self-check that both calibration types produce the same final settings. If something isn’t right with either type of calibration, results won’t match and it will not pass. While this is more work, it can be argued that it is the most thorough method of calibration.

What type is needed?

Important: The type of calibration that is required for your vehicle is determined by the manufacturer and cannot be changed based on preference.
