What About Rear-View Mirrors?

We know rear-view mirrors are important too!

Rear view mirrors which are mounted on your front windshield are a different situation than side mirrors. The glass inside can’t be replaced separately from the mirror housing. This is primarily because of how it’s contained within the single-use frame but also because of components like Electrochromic Automatic Dimming and other features in modern mirrors.

What does this mean? You’ll need to pick up a whole new rear view mirror from a parts store, dealership, or auto wrecker in order to fix a broken one.

We don’t carry rear-view mirrors due to how infrequently they are needed. If you do get a hold of one from another source, feel free to stop by a shop. We can certainly help put a new one on for you!

What’s the law about broken mirrors?

Laws vary by province in Canada. For Alberta specifically, it says this in the TRAFFIC SAFETY ACT, Vehicle Equipment Regulation (AR 122/2009):

Section 74, “Rear view mirror”

  1. A motor vehicle must have an inside rear view mirror that gives the driver a clear view of the roadway behind the vehicle and of any other vehicle approaching from behind.
  2. If the view in the rear view mirror is obstructed or interfered with in any way, a motor vehicle must have side mirrors on each side that give the driver a clear view of the roadway behind and on each side of the motor vehicle.
  3. If a motor vehicle is equipped by a manufacturer with an outside rear view mirror attached to the left side of the motor vehicle, the rear view mirror must be maintained in good working order.

Driving with a broken or missing car mirror might seem like a minor issue, but it’s a big deal for your safety. Mirrors are essential for spotting other vehicles, making safe lane changes, and avoiding accidents. Plus, driving without functional side mirrors is against the law in Alberta—so you could risk a ticket.

Don’t wait to fix your mirror. The sooner you do, the safer (and less stressful) your drives will be.

Side View Mirror Problems?

Your side view mirrors are built tough, but life happens. They’re exposed to everything from bad weather to parking lot scrapes. Here are some common issues we see:

  • Cracks and Chips: These reduce visibility and can get worse over time.
  • Bubbling or discoloring: Some mirrors, especially with aftermarket modifications are more susceptible to this.
  • Did you know?: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), improper lane changes, often due to inadequate visibility, account for about 9% of crashes

Our team handles all kinds of mirror replacements, so you can trust us to get you back on the road safely.
